VFD Panel Manufacturer in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

Akshayam Controls & Automation designs and builds VFD control panels for AC motor speed control. A variable frequency drive panel varies the frequency and voltage reaching the motor, so speed and torque follow the process instead of running flat out and being throttled mechanically.

Each VFD drive panel is sized from the motor rating, the load type and the duty cycle. Protection, line and load reactors, forced cooling and the bypass arrangement all follow from that data.

Panels ship from our Peelamedu works to sites in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Madurai and Trichy, and on to Bengaluru in Karnataka, Kochi in Kerala and other South India locations. Many go out integrated with PLC control panels and MCC panels for coordinated multi-motor control.

What is a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Panel?

A VFD panel is a control cabinet housing a variable frequency drive together with its protection devices, switching, control supply, indication and cooling.

VFD Motor Speed Control Process Flow

Main Power Supply
VFD Controller
AC Motor
Mechanical Load

The drive adjusts the frequency and voltage supplied to the motor, and the motor speed follows. Configuration is matched to the motor rating, the mechanical load, the speed range required and the communication protocol the plant uses.

How Does a VFD Panel Control Motor Speed?

01

Power Input

Three-phase AC supply enters the VFD control panel through its protection and isolation devices.

02

VFD Processing

The drive rectifies AC to DC, smooths it across the DC bus, and rebuilds an AC output using PWM switching.

03

Variable Output

That output leaves at whatever frequency and voltage the speed reference calls for.

04

Controlled Run

The motor runs at the required speed, with acceleration and deceleration ramps set to suit the driven machine.

Key Components of VFD Panels

Variable Frequency Drive

The drive itself — sized to motor kW and load torque, and set up for the control method the application needs.

Input / Output Protection

MCCBs, fast-acting semiconductor fuses and surge protection guarding the drive electronics against faults and transients.

Line & Load Reactors

Line reactors reduce harmonic distortion drawn from the supply; load reactors protect the motor insulation on long cable runs.

Control Interface

Potentiometer, selector switches, push buttons and pilot lamps for local speed setting and start/stop.

Bypass Arrangement

Optional bypass contactors let the motor run direct-on-line if the drive has to come out for service — worth having on any critical duty.

Cooling & Ventilation

Fans, filtered inlets and vents sized to the drive's heat output; drives fail early when they run hot.

Key Features of Our VFD Panels

Variable Speed Regulation

Speed set precisely to the process demand rather than fixed at full speed and throttled at the valve or damper.

Controlled Soft Starting

Starting current spikes and mechanical shock removed from every start, which is easier on belts, couplings and the supply alike.

Ramped Deceleration

Deceleration ramps tuned to the load, preventing water hammer in pumping systems and overrun on conveyors.

Digital Parameter Display

Output frequency, motor current, voltage and running hours readable at the panel front.

PLC & HMI Compatibility

Analog and digital references, or fieldbus, linking the VFD drive panel to PLC, HMI and SCADA.

Industrial Construction

Powder-coated sheet steel, generous cable space, correct segregation of drive and control wiring, and safety interlocks.

VFD Panel Applications Across Industries

Textile Industries

Speed coordination across spinning frames, drafting sections, loom feeds and humidification fans.

Engineering Industries

Extraction blowers, sand plant mixers and metal conveyors running at variable throughput.

Water Treatment Plants

Raw water pump flow control, chemical feed systems and backwash sequencing.

Food Processing

Mixing speed variation, processing conveyors and refrigeration compressors.

HVAC Systems

AHU fans, chiller pumps and building ventilation, where variable speed is where the savings actually are.

Material Handling

Belt speed matching, sorting channels and elevator loops with controlled starts.

Where Are VFD Panels Used?

Across plant utilities, these four applications account for most of the VFD panels we build:

Pumping Systems

Booster and process pumps held at constant pressure as demand rises and falls, instead of running full speed against a throttled valve.

Fans & Air Blowers

Ventilation, exhaust and combustion air volumes matched to actual requirement.

Conveyor Systems

Belt speed matched to production rate, with soft starts that stop product shifting on the line.

Compressor Units

Compressor speed modulated to compressed air demand rather than cycling on and off.

Benefits of Variable Frequency Drive Panels

  • Motor speed matched precisely to process demand
  • Soft starting removes starting current surges from the supply
  • Less mechanical stress on shafts, couplings and gearboxes
  • Acceleration and deceleration ramps set to suit the machine
  • Fewer manual adjustments to change a process speed
  • Real scope to cut power draw on variable torque loads
  • Integrates with PLC control for automated sequencing
  • Live display of running parameters and active faults
  • Optional bypass keeps the motor running if the drive is out
  • Drive and protection switchgear consolidated in one enclosure

VFD Panels for Industrial Automation

Where the drive has to answer to the wider plant rather than a local potentiometer, three integration layers matter:

  • PLC control integration: start, stop and speed reference sent from PLC logic over 4–20 mA, digital signals or fieldbus
  • HMI local interface: touchscreen showing drive frequency, load current, running hours and fault history at the panel
  • SCADA integration: drives reporting to a central station for plant-wide monitoring and supervisory control

Why Choose Akshayam Controls for VFD Panels?

01

Sized to the Load, Not the Motor Alone

Drive selection accounts for load torque and duty, not just motor kW — the difference between a panel that runs for years and one that trips on every start.

02

Coimbatore-Based Manufacturer

Built at our Peelamedu works, with design reviews you can attend and support across Tamil Nadu.

03

Application-Focused Engineering

Panels built for pumps, fans, conveyors and compressors we have commissioned, with the ramp and control settings that suit each.

04

Attention to the Details That Fail

Semiconductor fuse protection, proper cooling, segregated drive wiring and shielded motor cable practice.

05

Automation Integration

PLC, HMI, SCADA and instrument links built in where required, rather than added awkwardly later.

06

Support Through the Project

From application analysis and drive sizing to manufacturing, testing, delivery and parameter setting on site.

Frequently Asked Questions About VFD Panels

What is a VFD panel?

A VFD panel is a control cabinet housing a variable frequency drive along with protection devices, switching, control supply, indication and cooling. It regulates the speed and torque of AC induction motors, and is also called a VFD control panel, a VFD drive panel or a motor speed control panel.

What is the purpose of a VFD?

Motor speed control, primarily. It also gives controlled starting and stopping, protects the driven machine from shock loading, and can cut power draw significantly on variable torque loads such as pumps and fans.

How does a VFD control motor speed?

The drive rectifies incoming three-phase AC to DC, smooths it, then rebuilds an AC output at whatever frequency the speed reference calls for. Motor speed follows supply frequency, so a lower frequency means a slower motor.

Where are VFD panels used?

On pump lines, cooling towers, extraction and combustion fans, product conveyors and air compressors — across textile mills, chemical plants, water treatment works, food factories and commercial HVAC installations.

Can VFD panels be customised?

Yes. Drive rating, protection, reactors, cooling arrangement, bypass, control interface and parameter settings are all built around your motor and application.

Can a VFD panel be integrated with PLC and HMI?

Yes. A PLC sends start, stop and speed reference over 4–20 mA, digital signals or fieldbus, and an HMI displays frequency, load current, running hours and fault history.

Can VFD panels reduce energy consumption?

On variable torque loads — centrifugal pumps and fans — yes, often substantially, because power draw falls sharply as speed reduces. On constant torque loads the saving is much smaller. It depends on your load profile and duty cycle, so treat any blanket percentage claim with caution.

Is a VFD suitable for every motor application?

No. For a motor that runs at full speed most of the time, a VFD adds cost, heat and a component that can fail, with little return. It is worth discussing the duty cycle before deciding.

What is a bypass, and do I need one?

A bypass lets the motor run direct-on-line if the drive is removed or fails. On a critical pump or fan it is cheap insurance; on a non-critical drive it is often skipped.

Do you manufacture VFD panels in Coimbatore?

Yes. Design, assembly, wiring, drive configuration and testing are all carried out at our works in Gandhi Maa Nagar, Peelamedu, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
