Power Input
Three-phase AC supply enters the VFD control panel through its protection and isolation devices.
VFD Processing
The drive rectifies AC to DC, smooths it across the DC bus, and rebuilds an AC output using PWM switching.

What is a VFD panel?
A VFD panel is a control cabinet housing a variable frequency drive along with protection devices, switching, control supply, indication and cooling. It regulates the speed and torque of AC induction motors, and is also called a VFD control panel, a VFD drive panel or a motor speed control panel.
What is the purpose of a VFD?
Motor speed control, primarily. It also gives controlled starting and stopping, protects the driven machine from shock loading, and can cut power draw significantly on variable torque loads such as pumps and fans.
How does a VFD control motor speed?
The drive rectifies incoming three-phase AC to DC, smooths it, then rebuilds an AC output at whatever frequency the speed reference calls for. Motor speed follows supply frequency, so a lower frequency means a slower motor.
Where are VFD panels used?
On pump lines, cooling towers, extraction and combustion fans, product conveyors and air compressors — across textile mills, chemical plants, water treatment works, food factories and commercial HVAC installations.

Can VFD panels reduce energy consumption?
On variable torque loads — centrifugal pumps and fans — yes, often substantially, because power draw falls sharply as speed reduces. On constant torque loads the saving is much smaller. It depends on your load profile and duty cycle, so treat any blanket percentage claim with caution.
Is a VFD suitable for every motor application?
No. For a motor that runs at full speed most of the time, a VFD adds cost, heat and a component that can fail, with little return. It is worth discussing the duty cycle before deciding.
What is a bypass, and do I need one?
A bypass lets the motor run direct-on-line if the drive is removed or fails. On a critical pump or fan it is cheap insurance; on a non-critical drive it is often skipped.
